Background:

Holy Rood Catholic Junior is an urban school set in 'delightful setting at the foot of open parkland'. The school was built in 1968 and provides 'spacious' accommodation for the two classes in each year group. Pupils travel from nearby parishes and school buses are provided for children who travel from the west of Swindon. The school chaplain regularly visits the school, as does the chair of governors. The teaching of the Catholic faith is 'at the heart of the work of the school and this influences teaching in all areas of the school'. Children of other denominations are also welcome in the school if they seek a Christian education. The staff are keen to communicate with parents and parents are encouraged to play a part in school life. They are encouraged to attend assemblies, class masses, school masses and to support the 'active and very supportive' Parents and Friends Association. The school hopes to provide children with a 'happy and yet appropriately disciplined environment where they can grow confidently and where praise encourages self esteem, empathy, self-respect and the right attitude to work'.
