Background:

Founded in mid-19th century; moved to new site in centre of the village when Rowde junior and infant schools combined with Poulshot village school; 'modern, well-equipped' buildings comprise large hall, information technology suite, library, and classrooms; facilities include swimming pool and extensive grounds with stimulating playground equipment, wild area, pond and garden. Plans for new purpose-built school on eastern edge of village following agreement with national housebuilder. Rowde Cygnets playgroup and Rowde RASCALS after-school club are on school site. In addition to national curriculum, children are taught French and a musical instrument. Physical education is 'well catered for', with swimming, football, netball, tennis, rugby, basketball and rounders all offered. School recently won area basketball and hockey tournaments. Large number of extra-curricular activities ranges from sports to music, to chess and country dancing. Particularly proud of reputation for 'academic standards, sporting achievement, caring ethos and music'. The governing body aims 'to provide equality of opportunity for all pupils by creating a rich and stimulating environment'.
