Background:
The school was founded in 1871. It is situated in the village of Ashton Keynes, about 12 miles northwest of Swindon and five miles from Cirencester. Nearly all the children who attend come from the village. The school has a large playing field and a conservation area with a pond. There are a variety of after-school clubs, organised by teachers and parents. These include netball, country dancing, cricket, football, rounders, tennis, computers, art and singing. Children are given the opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument. Each child has ten swimming lessons per year. The school believes in high standards of work and behaviour. Arts, music and physical education are valued highly. The school aims to help children to enjoy their time spent in school. It wants pupils to develop lively, inquiring minds, giving them the ability to question, to argue rationally and to apply themselves to tasks.
