Background:

Built by the Marquess of Bath in 1862, the school is situated in 'beautiful rural surroundings' in the heart of the Longleat Estate. It serves the local village and the nearby Deverill Valley, with more than half the pupils choosing to attend from Warminster. The original Victorian building accommodates Key Stage 1 pupils and has been extended to provide an extra teaching area, library and office. The older children are taught in a mobile classroom. The whole school is 'brightly decorated and in excellent condition'. Its grounds consist of a hard play area, a natural wooded play area, small field and a peace garden for conservation studies and quiet times. The school won an Education Extra Distinction Award in 1999 for its extensive programme of extra-curricular activities which include judo, sport, cookery, choir, recorder, culture and French. The school holds the Quality Mark awarded by the Basic Skills Agency for the teaching of literacy and numeracy. There are close links with the local community and church. Many charities are supported each year.
