Background:

This over-subscribed school is relatively modern, having been constructed in 1975 as four double unit teaching areas. Two mobile units were added shortly after the school opened and several projects completed in the 1990s, including a new brick build classroom for four-year-olds. The school, which draws the majority of its pupils from the immediate area, now has nine traditional classrooms with connecting corridors and an IT suite with internet connection. The drive to improve the school's facilities has included the 'extensive' grounds in which the most recent developments were two boules courts which opened in 1999. A new shrubbery and play area is now being planned. The curriculum includes French, which the school believes will be of 'great benefit' to the pupils. Its 'wide range' of after school activities include sports clubs, music, White Harness (guide dogs) and, in conjunction with Larkrise Special School which is sited on the same campus, the Link Club. Older children may have the opportunity to make residential visits to places of interest and day visits are made throughout the year. The school aims to create a 'positive and secure learning environment so that children may develop their intellectual, physical, emotional and social abilities to fulfil their potential'.
