Background:

A school has existed in Crudwell since 1670, when children were taught in what is now the schoolhouse, which was originally built by John Lord Lucas to educate the poor. The present building was built in 1857 and is situated in a 'lively, thriving and friendly' Cotswold village. The school was extended in 1970 and now includes a hall, kitchen, offices and new Key Stage 1 unit. The school is set in more than two acres of grounds with many mature trees and shrubs, picnic tables and benches, and has views of both the South Cotswolds and the village. For a small school it has 'very good' sports facilities, which include gymnastic equipment, two netball pitches, two football pitches, and a running track and rounders field for the summer. The vast majority of children stay for after-school clubs which include drama, French, sewing, country dancing, chess and board games, and computers. The school has 'many' links with the local community and children take part in village events like the Talents Concert held in the church. Contact is maintained with local schools through the annual Malmesbury area football and netball tournament.
