Background:

Founded in the late 19th century, the school is situated in the centre of the village and includes a catchment area of the neighbouring parish of Orcheston. It now occupies a split site. The Victorian building houses Years 4 to 6, offices, food technology area and a library. It offers attractive gardens and a polytunnel. Children work with the local horticultural society to produce tubs and baskets. Reception to Year 3 are housed in temporary buildings and a mobile classroom on the centre site, together with a hall and a further library. The school has a large field and games/athletics facilities, and inter-school matches are organised. It has a 'strong tradition' in music and drama and children have the opportunity of brass and strings lessons from peripatetic teachers. Recorders, guitar and choir are all taught by staff. Pupils take part in extra-curricular activities which range from sports, such as football, netball, cricket, rounders, judo and athletics, to arts and crafts.In Year 6, pupils can take part in a residential activity week in Wales. Local links include with a day centre for the elderly and church, and there is a 'very active' parent teacher association. Pupils raise funds for different charities each year. The school is over-subscribed in some years.
