Background:
Originally founded in 1835, the present school building was completed in 1997 on the edge of the village surrounded by green fields. An all-weather track, willow dome and quiet areas are sited around the field where a variety of trees and shrubs are 'coming into maturity.' Great Bedwyn received the Investors in People award in 1997, they have won Road Safety in Wiltshire for the last six years and won the area football tournament in 1999. A range of extra-curricular activites is on offer, including music, drama, football, netball, art and cycling proficiency. A special needs co-ordinator organises staged programmes for special needs children in programmes involving both whole class integration and private study. Residential and day outings are on offer including outdoor activities trips to Oxenwood for Year 4 pupils, and to Wales for Years 5 and 6. Links with the local church are 'close' and Great Bedwyn is also associated with a playgroup, a nursery and a day centre for older residents.
