Background:

Kingsdown is a foundation school. It is a single site mixed comprehensive school for students who are between 11 and 16 years of age. There are suites of rooms for each subject area; learning support and careers have their own rooms. The school is served with an upto date computer network. The library is a modern resource centre utilising information technology equipment and books. There are two gymnasium halls and a drama hall. The grounds include sports areas and landscaped areas. All students study the national curriculum core subjects: English, mathematics and science from Year 7 to Year 11. All the national curriculum foundation subjects are studied in Year 7 to Year 9: technology, history, geography, art, music, physical education and a modern foreign language. Students visit wide range of business and organisations. The school has achieved the following awards: Investors in People status and School Achievement Award in 2002. The school has a partnership with several local companies. There are links with a special school, local nursing home and community groups. The school has a reputation for caring about all its students and helping them to realise their full potential.
