Background:
Oliver Tomkins CofE Junior School was opened in 1983 and serves the area of Toothill and Freshbrook, taking most of its pupils from Oliver Tomkins Infant School. The school has close links with the church and local community and there is a very supportive parents group, which organises social and fundraising events from time to time. The school has its own sports field and hall, and children take part in a variety of sports including gymnastics, dance, athletics, rounders, kwik-cricket, football and netball. The school participates in inter-school competitions with other Swindon schools. Swimming is also offered with trips to local baths. Some children have the opportunity to play musical instruments though the costs must be partly covered by parents. The school environment is one in which the Christian values of love and caring for others are considered to be very important.
