Background:

Opened in 1969, the school design 'though modern, is fairly traditional' and has three classrooms and two units of double classrooms. One classroom is used as an 'up-to-date' library with a computer for research and there is also an information communications technology suite. There are two mobile classrooms, one of which is used for class and the other for an extra teaching area for reception children. Westrop is set in 'spacious, pleasant' grounds, which were recently developed. It offers a 'range' of extra-curricular activities including sport, music and drama. Their 'thriving' football club has approximately 70 members. Story tellers, theatres and poets are used as an introduction to work, and recently the children's poetry was published for the National Environment Research Council. There are 'regular' visits from the Church of England curate, and Methodist minister, and Harvest Festival and Christmas services are held in church. The elderly are entertained by students, and they also particpate in the church fete. Three to four charities are donated to each year and these have included Jeans for Genes and the NSPCC. Harvest gifts are also given to the Broad Green Breakfast Club, a local charity. The school is over-subscribed by about 25 per cent.
